Choose a gloss coated stock if your packaging is heavy on photographs for its design because the photos appear sharper and more vibrant. However, this is not the best paper if your project is text-heavy. The light that bounces back from the glossy material will make the copy difficult to read.
The coating on matte sheets diffuses the light. Unlike glossy paper wherein the rays are reflected back to the reader’s eyes, the rays are scattered with matte. Best option if your CD or DVD package has plenty of text.
Matte coating is slightly less shiny than dull coated paper and under close scrutiny may even appear a bit mottled. Dull-coated sheets are slightly more expensive than matte.
This process is more effective if the background is matte. This is a screen printed process where certain areas of a design are selected and the varnish is applied only to these areas. A spot UV is often applied over pictures to make them grab more attention.
This does not work well for very fine detail and text because the varnish does spread a teeny tiny amount. Although it won’t get noticed on large elements, it probably will for the finer details.
You can add more glitter and glamour to your DVD Digipack by foil stamping it. Any graphical elements with foil will shine and pop from afar. Foil comes in gold, silver, and many different colors.
Embossing is to decorate with or as if with a raised design. Embossing a logo or the album/movie title of your Digipak is a great way to add dimension and emphasis to certain elements.
