We scrimp and save simply to support the bohemian lifestyle we\u2019ve chosen.<\/p>\n\n\nWell, I have good news: You don\u2019t have to budget. But you do have to sign up for auto-saving techniques, which provides a cushiony nest egg without you having to think about it. It doesn\u2019t matter if it\u2019s $50\/month or $500\/month. Every bit counts. I hope this article strike a few chords with you, my fellow artists, and I\u2019ll be happy as a clam if you come away with even one new trendy bit of financial prowess.\nBeing a musician means you probably don\u2019t make a lot of money. What it doesn\u2019t mean is that you have to be broke and scrimping all the time. You can still live well as I\u2019ve learned throughout the ups and downs of my career.\u00a0 The list below represents about two hours of the time it took to actually go through the steps, but I am well-rewarded with financial safety and well-being.\n<strong>1.<\/strong> <strong>Start saving, just a tiny bit at a time<\/strong>, and have it done with automatic withdrawals. I cannot stress enough how important automatic withdrawals are to building reasonable savings. You don\u2019t even have to think about it this way.\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/smartypig.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8751\" title=\"smarty-pig-finances\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/smartypig.jpg\" alt=\"musician-finances-smarty-pig\" width=\"274\" height=\"184\" \/><\/a>\n<strong>To Do<\/strong>: Go to\u00a0www.smartypig.com. This is a really cute yet extremely functional site that helps you set saving goals AND gives you a whopping 1.75% in interest, no strings or fees attached. It\u2019s been highly rated by The New York Times, CNN, Forbes, Fox Business and The Today Show. For instance, I am saving for a hiking trip (it costs $2,000) in the mountains next summer. I created a goal of $2000, hooked smartypig and my checking account up, plopped $50 into my aptly self-named \u201cHiking\u201d account, and signed up for auto-withdrawals of $50 to continue every other week. I\u2019m now on the fast-track to the Rockies!\u00a0Smartypig helps you create these doable goals and cheers you on in the process.\n<strong>2. Read the reviews or the full list of awards, and then sign up.\n<strong>3. Health Insurance. <\/strong>I have never considered going without health insurance and you shouldn\u2019t either. Consider what happens to you if you break your arm (God forbid) or get in a car accident (God again forbid) with no insurance: You end up with a multi-zeroed emergency room bill. I\u2019m talking tens of thousands of dollars, maybe more. Who\u2019ll try to help if you can\u2019t help yourself? Your family. The road to financial ruin is short, and health costs are one of the top three reasons people file bankruptcy. It would be a pity to put both you and your family in that situation, so be responsible!
