And that requires you, our dear client, to review your <strong>test pressing vinyl records<\/strong>\u2014the right way!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this article, we\u2019ll be discussing this critical steps of the vinyl manufacturing process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Why critical?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Well, whatever you do in this step, will decide the quality of your vinyl records&#8230;so it&#8217;s extremely important. This step is called &#8220;vinyl test pressing&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After we receive the metal stampers, we first a few copies and send them to you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These copies are what we call <strong>test pressings<\/strong> and they\u2019re the ones you listen and review. You have to make sure to thoroughly check all the test pressings because this will help us improve the stamper before we start the actual pressing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you find no flaws in them, you can give your approval and we\u2019ll then start the production of your vinyl records. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But if you find problems, you have to tell us about it and we\u2019ll fix the problems before sending you another test pressing. That&#8217;s all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> They technically don\u2019t have any difference from the regular ones, because the other ones are based from this.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But unlike the regular pressings, these test pressings will only have white center labels and are stored in <strong>generic vinyl sleeves<\/strong>&#8230;because their main purpose is only for you to check them!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And even if you ordered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/how-to-press-colored-vinyl-records-and-have-them-shipped-directly-to-your-fans\/\"><strong>colored vinyl records<\/strong><\/a>, they will usually be in black vinyl at first because the purpose is for you to check audio quality more than anything else.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>_________________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<h2><b>WHAT DO I LOOK FOR AND FOCUS ON WHEN I LISTEN TO THE TEST PRESSINGS?<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>#1. UNUSUAL NOISE<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-37320\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/VINYL-RECORD-LIFE-RECORD-CRACKLE_01-1-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt=\"test pressing vinyl records\" width=\"600\" height=\"323\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/VINYL-RECORD-LIFE-RECORD-CRACKLE_01-1-1024x683-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/VINYL-RECORD-LIFE-RECORD-CRACKLE_01-1-1024x683-1-300x162.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/VINYL-RECORD-LIFE-RECORD-CRACKLE_01-1-1024x683-1-768x414.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Noise is a usual problem in the vinyl format so you have to be extra vigilant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Surface noise, clicks and pops may occur because of the phenomenon called \u201ccold pull\u201d which is due to the press not in 100% optimum temperature.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The noises mentioned above are not a problem, though, as long as they don\u2019t occur in the same places. Make sure to look out for loud pops, excessive static, and skips, too.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>#2. DISTORTION<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-37321\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/maxresdefault-2.jpg\" alt=\"test pressing vinyl records\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/maxresdefault-2.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/maxresdefault-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/maxresdefault-2-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/maxresdefault-2-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Due to the format\u2019s tactility, the test pressings have its limitations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> By that I mean, it&#8217;s possible to not hear warp in the test pressing, yet&#8230;we can&#8217;t guarantee that the other records won&#8217;t have any kind of distortion. Every pressing is still unique and 5-10% will have distortions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But there&#8217;s one thing you must know when you check the test pressing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keep in mind that their inner grooves are susceptible to distortions. So just take note of it if you hear distortions outside of it&#8230;and tell us.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>#3. SONG ORDER<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-37341\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/how-to-review-vinyl-test-pressing.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/how-to-review-vinyl-test-pressing.jpg 460w, https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/how-to-review-vinyl-test-pressing-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are instances when you might have given us the wrong file or we&#8217;ve made a mistake, so you should listen to the pressing in its entirety. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This will also allow you to check if the songs are in the order you want them to be.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>#4. DON&#8217;T GET DISTRACTED<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-37335\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/no.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/no.png 469w, https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/no-300x135.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You have to focus while listening to your whole album. Period. I don&#8217;t care how busy you are, it&#8217;s simply a MUST.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> As mentioned earlier, you have to listen to the whole album thoroughly. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t visit your social media or even use any gadgets at all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Focus on the task at hand. If you get distracted, you might not be able to catch minor glitches or the spaces between tracks.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>#2. DON&#8217;T TEST ON CHEAP VINYL PLAYERS<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-37336\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Cheap-VS-Expensive.jpg\" alt=\"test pressing vinyl records\" width=\"600\" height=\"449\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Cheap-VS-Expensive.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Cheap-VS-Expensive-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Cheap-VS-Expensive-768x575.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you do test pressing, you have to play them on a decent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/5-best-record-vinyl-players\/\"><strong>vinyl player<\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> If you use a cheap one for this, then you will definitely hear skips that are originally not there&#8230;and will cause us all unnecessary stress and delays.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>#3.
