AI Music\u2019s idea was to generate a unique soundtrack that would continue to change based on the interactions of the user.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s say there\u2019s a gamer who uses the technology. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What AI Music wants is for the technology to generate a soundtrack which would change depending on the mood the game is going for or on the mood of the gamer itself. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the user works out then the technology should be able to pick up stimulus and change based on the intensity of the exercise or workout performed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-35272\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/gamer-who-uses-the-technology.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"399\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With this technology, there will be no need for people to make playlists based on moods. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They\u2019ll just use the technology and have a soundtrack that will fit their mood perfectly. It\u2019s a good technology for music consumers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But, of course, AI Music\u2019s technology isn\u2019t the only music-generating AI around. There are already a handful of these AI\u2019s developed by composers and musicians for their own use.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With music-generating AI musician users, they will have a quicker and easier way to create or complete their music. It gave us the skills to break out of our own habits.\u201d &#8211; CLAIRE EVANS,<\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> member of YACHT<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yacht\u2019s recent album <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chain Tripping<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> used the help of AI to create the tracks within it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They listened through the melodies generated by the tech, cut those with interesting parts and then put them together to create the tracks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Listening to it would have been so cool, but they had a problem when they needed to perform it. CJ CARR, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">co-founder of Dadabots<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last we have Carr who is a co-founder of Dadabots, a music-generating AI.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> He claimed that with AI, his quoted statement above would be very possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aside from the expansion, he said that it can also help in training musicians in producing music just like how chess AI can improve a player\u2019s game. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also wanted to see young producers, and when he said young he meant 14-year young producers, producing music that has never been produced before.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But even if it is widely accepted, there is still some skepticism towards it due to its impersonation of other musicians. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is especially pointed towards Jukebox which focuses on making music similar to the music made by a musician they were trained and given data on. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Holly Herndon, one of the many artists who has worked with music-generating AI, contacted the OpenAI team to address this issue of intellectual property.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"songs-created-bywith-ai\"><\/span><b>SONGS CREATED BY\/WITH AI<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I have been saying that even before last year started, there have been released songs created by or with the help of AIs. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are some of them:<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"1-eternal-%e2%80%93-holly-herndon\"><\/span><b>#1. <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/r4sROgbaeOs\"><b>ETERNAL &#8211; The office responsible for it won\u2019t approve of it for sure.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"why-cant-the-ai-own-it\"><\/span><b>WHY CAN\u2019T THE AI OWN IT?<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-35282\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/WHY-CANT-THE-AI-OWN-IT.webp\" alt=\"AI Music- Music can now be created through artificial intelligence!\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.copyright.gov\/comp3\/\">U.S. Copyright Office\u2019s Compendium<\/a> of US Copyright Office Practices, Section 306, the U.S. Copyright Office will only register an original work of authorship if the work was created by a human being. Section 306 in full:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe U.S. Copyright Office will register an original work of authorship, provided that the work was created by a human being.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The copyright law only protects \u201cthe fruits of intellectual labor\u201d that \u201care founded in the creative powers of the mind.\u201d Trade-Mark Cases, 100 U.S. 82, 94 (1879). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because copyright law is limited to \u201coriginal intellectual conceptions of the author,\u201d the Office will refuse to register a claim if it determines that a human being did not create the work. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Burrow-Giles Lithographic Co. v. Sarony, 111 U.S. 53, 58 (1884).\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-35283\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/This-means-that-if-an-art-was-created-by-an-AI.gif\" alt=\"AI Music- Music can now be created through artificial intelligence!\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This means that if an art was created by an AI, they will be rejecting the application for copyright. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the same compendium, Section 313.12 enumerates the kind of art that cannot be applied for copyright. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are the examples:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A photograph taken by a monkey.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A mural painted by an elephant.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A claim based on the appearance of actual animal skin.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A claim based on driftwood that has been shaped and smoothed by the ocean.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A claim based on cut marks, defects, and other qualities found in natural stone.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An application for a song naming the Holy Spirit as the author of the work.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though the AI is not enumerated in this list from the compendium, we can see why they will reject the application.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"why-cant-the-ai-owner-own-it\"><\/span><b>WHY CAN\u2019T THE AI OWNER OWN IT?<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-35284\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/960x0.jpg\" alt=\"AI Music- Music can now be created through artificial intelligence!\" width=\"600\" height=\"319\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/960x0.jpg 958w, https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/960x0-300x160.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/960x0-768x409.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There has been a claim of copyright on AI-generated art on the basis of \u201cwork for hire\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This means that the ownership was transferred to the human owner since in a sense, the AI is a worker for the owner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, this was not acknowledged by the court. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They argued that AI\u2019s cannot make their own decisions which means that they can\u2019t also enter a binding legal contract. This makes the \u201cwork for hire\u201d argument, due to being the owner of the AI, invalid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was an opinion from David Fosbo that suggested giving the ownership to the operator of the AI during the creation of the art. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And I think I agree, because as I have already said, there will be no music generated without a human putting in data and operating the AI.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>What about you.
