We here at Unified love two things indie movies and awesome vinyl…so we decided to come up with this list!<\/span><\/p>\n

Most of the popular movies are from movies from major movie studios, with famous casts and big budgets.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, being a great movie doesn’t always have to be high budget, and that\u2019s what independent movies have proved for so long.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here are some of those indie movies with their awesome soundtrack vinyl album<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

#1. PARASITE (2019)<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

This might be the only asian film in this list and it rightfully gained its spot here because it is such a great film portraying how economic classes and greed affect people and in turn the society. <\/span><\/p>\n

The critically acclaimed film of the year was directed by Korean director Bong Joon Ho which premiered in 2019 at Cannes Film Festival<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

He took home the Palme d’Or for best film, being the first Korean to do so in the competition.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year, Sacred Bones Records released a limited vinyl edition of the film\u2019s soundtrack. <\/span><\/p>\n

The 25 tracks are pressed onto two 12-inch vinyl records<\/strong> in lime green designed with red wisps. <\/span><\/p>\n

The records are inside a printed gatefold jacket<\/strong> that features the poor Kim family inside their house.<\/span><\/p>\n

#2 WHIPLASH (2014)<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Whiplash is a psychological drama by Damien Chazelle that follows the story of an ambitious drummer that is driven into obsessive perfection by his abusive and ruthless bandleader. <\/span><\/p>\n

The film was a big success, earning an Oscar nomination for Best Picture and Best Screenplay and winning Best Supporting Actor.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2014 and 2015, Whiplash\u2019s soundtrack was one of the best-selling new soundtracks and it came back in 2020 as a deluxe edition with two standard black 12-inch vinyl records.<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n

There are a total of 36 tracks pressed on them, including unreleased cues, outtakes, remixes and 6 songs removed from the original vinyl version. <\/span><\/p>\n

The vinyl album<\/strong> also features new hand drawn artwork on the gatefold jacket and inner sleeves and new notes from T.S. Monk.<\/span><\/p>\n

#3 LOST IN TRANSLATION (2003)<\/b><\/h3>\n

Director Sofia Coppola wrote and directed the indie film Lost in Translation, starring Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray. <\/span><\/p>\n

It is a film set in Tokyo\u2019s Park Hyatt where two people, a conflicted newlywed (Johansson) and an aging movie star (Murray) meet and experience romance.<\/span><\/p>\n

The film\u2019s soundtrack is a mix of both popular music and original scores composed by Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine. <\/span><\/p>\n

Some of these popular music are Sebastian Tellier\u2019s <\/span>Fantino<\/span><\/i>, My Bloody Valentine\u2019s <\/span>Sometimes<\/span><\/i>, and Happy End\u2019s <\/span>Kaze Wo Atsumete<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

#4 ZOLA (2020)<\/b><\/h3>\n

Zola is a black comedy crime film that was inspired from a 2015 viral Twitter thread posted by Aziah \u201cZola\u201d King.<\/span><\/p>\n

It revolves around four people that travel to Tampa Florida for a strip gig which turned into a 48-hour sleepless weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n

A good film can never not be accompanied with a good soundtrack and we have Mica Levi to thank for Zola\u2019s. <\/span><\/p>\n

There was a marbled sky blue vinyl pressing<\/strong> of the original soundtrack which was accompanied with a single jacket that features an artwork by Kezia Harrell.<\/span><\/p>\n

#5 DONNIE DARKO (2001)<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Donnie Darko premiered in early 2001 and was released in the United States in October of the same year, after the 9\/11 attack.<\/span><\/p>\n

Because of the situation the film has become not just another great film, but also gained a cult following. <\/span><\/p>\n

The film was set in October 1988 during the US presidential elections, where Donnie sleepwalks and meets Frank, a demonic-looking rabbit that tells him the world is coming to an end in 28 days.<\/span><\/p>\n

After that Frank manipulates Donnie into committing different kinds of crimes. <\/span>Since the film\u2019s budget was capped, he couldn\u2019t hire more experienced ones like Thomas Newman and Danny Elfman. <\/span><\/p>\n

However, it may have been a blessing in disguise because he get to let Michael Andrews do the scoring for tracks. <\/span><\/p>\n

The gatefold jacket of the soundtrack\u2019s vinyl album houses a green and white 12-inch vinyl record.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

#6 MOONLIGHT (2016)<\/b><\/h3>\n

Moonlight is a coming-of-age film by Barry Jenkins that presents Chiron\u2019s childhood, adolescence and early adult life.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is the main character\u2019s journey to manhood, highlighting the difficulties he faces with his sexuality and identity. <\/span><\/p>\n

For this film, the soundtrack is a mixture of originals scored by Nicholas Britell and soundtrack pieces chosen by Jenkins. <\/span><\/p>\n

The tracks are listed in the order they play in the film and were pressed onto dark blue see-through vinyl records<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

#7 LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE (2006)<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Little Miss Sunshine is a very relatable film revolving around the Hoover family who jumps into a VW bus to support a daughter, portrayed by Abigail Breslin, in her quest to win the Little Miss Sunshine Contest. <\/span><\/p>\n

The film\u2019s soundtrack album was filled mostly with works by DeVotchKa while there were selections from Sufjan Stevens, Tony Tisdale, and Rick James. <\/span><\/p>\n

All 14 tracks were pressed onto 12-inch custom colored vinyl records<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

#8 RESERVOIR DOGS (1992)<\/b><\/h3>\n

Quentin Tarantino\u2019s masterpiece Reservoir Dogs revolves around 6 criminals who are strangers to each other as they plan a heist that goes wrong.<\/span><\/p>\n

It has gained a cult following and was named as the \u201cGreatest Independent Film of all Time\u201d by Empire. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack of the film was released again as a special limited edition. <\/span><\/p>\n

A vinyl pressing<\/strong> was done for the limited 3000 copies of the blood red vinyl records<\/strong> on their respective single jackets.<\/span><\/p>\n

#9 CLERKS (1994)<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Kevin Smith\u2019s debut in filmmaking Clerks, with a budget of around $230,000 has greatly influenced and has been considered as a landmark in independent filmmaking. <\/span><\/p>\n

The film was shot in the convenience and video stores, where Smith also works in real life, for $27,575. <\/span><\/p>\n

It presents a day in the life of store clerks Dante Hicks and Randal Graves, portrayed by Brian O’Halloran and Jeff Anderson, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n

The soundtrack is composed of new and previously released songs from artists like Bad Religion and Alice in Chains. <\/span><\/p>\n

For the film\u2019s 20th Anniversary, the soundtrack had its very first vinyl pressing<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n

It has two heavyweight 12-inch vinyl records<\/strong> that have a clear black smoke custom design. Additionally, there is a side of the record that has an etching.<\/span><\/p>\n

#10 DAZED AND CONFUSED (1993)<\/b><\/h3>\n

Richard Linklater includes a huge cast and follows different groups of Texas teenagers during the last day of school in 1976. <\/span><\/p>\n

Though the film was a commercial disappointment at the box office, it has gained critical and commercial success over the years. It has even gained a cult following.<\/span><\/p>\n

The soundtrack album<\/strong> of the film consisted of hit songs, mostly from the rock genre, in the 1970\u2019s. It included songs <\/span>Hurricane<\/span><\/i> by Bob Dylan and <\/span>Sweet Emotion<\/span><\/i> by Aerosmith. <\/span><\/p>\n

The limited custom colored vinyl record<\/strong> <\/a>album of the soundtrack was released by Real Gone Music and housed in single jackets featuring a \u201cdazed\u201d emoji.<\/span><\/p>\n

#11 EASY RIDER (1969)<\/b><\/h3>\n

Easy Rider is a film that was deemed to be culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant by the Library of Congress because of what the film presents. <\/span><\/p>\n

In the film written by Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, and Terry Southern, produced by Fonda, and directed by Hopper, the young adults\u2019 experiences in the 1960\u2019s were highlighted. <\/span><\/p>\n

Aside from the cinematography, plot, and many other elements of the film, the soundtrack also played a big role in its greatness. <\/span><\/p>\n

The soundtrack featured a lot of popular rock artists including The Band and Steppenwolf.<\/span><\/p>\n

#12 ERASERHEAD (1977)<\/b><\/h3>\n

David Lynch\u2019s Eraserhead is a surrealist and experimental film. <\/span><\/p>\n

You better brace yourself first before you press play. It\u2019s a film starring Jack Nance who portrays Henry Spencer, a man with a girlfriend pregnant to a bizarre lizard-like creature. <\/span><\/p>\n

The soundtrack album of the film only contains two tracks, one is a compilation of excerpts of Fats Waller\u2019s organ music and the other is Peter Ivers\u2019 original score, <\/span>In Heaven<\/span><\/i>, for the film.<\/span><\/p>\n

For Sacred Bones Records 10th Anniversary, the company released only 1000 copies of the silver vinyl record<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n

The album includes a 7-inch vinyl record<\/strong> <\/a>that features Ivers\u2019 <\/span>In Heaven<\/span><\/i>, a deluxe 16-page book, and three 11×11 prints.<\/span><\/p>\n

#13 THE EVIL DEAD (1981)<\/b><\/h3>\n

The Evil Dead is Sam Raimi\u2019s first installation for his trilogy of comedic horror films. <\/span><\/p>\n

The film follows a group of people who found an old book that could awaken the dead when the text is read out loud. <\/span><\/p>\n

The legendary horror scores for this film by Joe LoDuca were rerecorded and reinvented by LoDuca while going through the drawing board again. <\/span><\/p>\n

The absolutely terrifying resulting scores were pressed onto green, red, and black custom colored vinyl records<\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

#14 FRIDAY THE 13TH (1980)<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

We all know how Friday the 13th has always been associated with misfortunes, and to some extent, death. <\/span><\/p>\n

In this film named after the superstitious date, the film is, you guessed it right, a slasher film. <\/span><\/p>\n

The film follows a group of camp counselors who are murdered one by one by an unknown killer. <\/span>With the anonymity of the killer along with Harry Manfredini\u2019s amazing scoring, the thrill and scare was intact. <\/span><\/p>\n

The 44-minute soundtrack album has been pressed on a green 12-inch vinyl record<\/strong> stored inside a printed inner sleeve and single jacket.<\/span><\/p>\n

#15 GHOST DOG: THE WAY OF THE SAMURAI (1999)<\/b><\/h3>\n

Jim Jarmusch\u2019s 1999 crime film stars Forest Whitaker who portrays the hitman \u201cGhost Dog\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n

He is a hitman that follows the ancient code of samurai warriors. <\/span><\/p>\n

The film’s Original Motion Picture Score was produced by The RZA and is now officially available on vinyl records. <\/span><\/p>\n

All 8 tracks have been pressed on 12-inch vinyl records<\/strong> in red color.<\/span><\/p>\n

#16 THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT (1972)<\/b><\/h3>\n

The film The Last House on the Left is Wes Craven\u2019s directorial debut. <\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a story that follows Mari Collingwood, portrayed by Sandra Peabody, who was abducted, raped, tortured, and killed by four criminals who unknowingly took refuge in her house.<\/span><\/p>\n

Stephen Chapin and David Hess, who also portrayed Krug, one of the criminals, produced the film’s soundtrack. <\/span><\/p>\n

One Way Static pressed the soundtrack on to vinyl records<\/strong><\/a> for the very first time and the design is a silver and white swirl.<\/span><\/p>\n

#17 NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968)<\/b><\/h3>\n

Night of the Living Dead by George A Romero is one of America\u2019s national treasures. <\/span><\/p>\n

The film is set on an abandoned house where a group of individuals took refuge in, not knowing that the corpses in its graveyard would be walking and preying on them.<\/span><\/p>\n

The soundtrack was produced by Scot W. Holton and first released on vinyl by Var\u00e8se Sarabande. <\/span><\/p>\n

For the film\u2019s 50th Anniversary, a vinyl 50th anniversary edition was released by Waxwork Records<\/a>. The tracks were pressed onto ghoul green vinyl records housed inside a deluxe packaging.<\/span><\/p>\n

#18 REQUIEM FOR A DREAM (2000)<\/b><\/h3>\n

The film is a psychological drama film that follows four drug addicts and their entrapment in a world of delusion and depression. <\/span><\/p>\n

It shows the audience how drugs alter their physical and emotional states resulting in their eventual destruction. <\/span><\/p>\n

This depressing film\u2019s soundtrack was composed by Clint Mansell and was pressed on vinyl on standard black records.<\/span><\/p>\n

#19 TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY (1991)<\/b><\/h3>\n

Last on the list is from the ever popular Terminator franchise. <\/span><\/p>\n

Terminator 2: Judgment Day focuses on the time-traveling cyborg. Terminator, sent back to kill John Connor, Edward Furlong, the future leader of the resistance. <\/span><\/p>\n

The film\u2019s soundtrack was composed by Brad Fiedel, the former composer for the earlier installment. <\/span><\/p>\n

The film’s tracks were pressed onto two standard black vinyl records<\/strong><\/a> which are housed inside printed inner sleeves and a gatefold jacket.<\/span><\/p>\n
