With all the devastating events happening between Ukraine and Russia, we’d like to pay some tribute to the Ukrainian arts and culture by featuring their top artists and their vinyl records.<\/span><\/p>\n

#1 ONUKA – VIDLIK<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"Ukrainian<\/p>\n

Onuka, which literally translates to granddaughter, is an electro-folk band from Ukraine consisting of five members.\u00a0 Their EP <\/span>Vidlik<\/span><\/i> was released last 2016 on vinyl, digital and CD. <\/span><\/p>\n

There is a limited edition vinyl pressing of the EP with only 277 copies. The special thing about this is that the white vinyl record<\/a> that comes with a black dominated single jacket glows in the dark<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

#2 JAMALA – ALL OR NOTHING<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"Ukrainian<\/p>\n

Jamala, full name Susana Alimivna Jamaladinova, released her second studio album <\/span>All or Nothing<\/span><\/i> in 2013. Along with a CD duplication<\/a><\/strong> and digital download release, she also decided to have a vinyl pressing<\/a><\/strong> for it. <\/span><\/p>\n

The 12 tracks were pressed onto standard black 12-inch vinyl records<\/a><\/strong> that are housed inside printed inner sleeves and printed single jackets<\/strong>, both featuring the artist.<\/span><\/p>\n

#3\u00a0 ALYONA ALYONA – <<\u041f\u0423\u0428\u041a\u0410>><\/b><\/h3>\n

\"Ukrainian<\/p>\n

Alyona Alyona is a Ukrainian rapper and songwriter who writes and performs her songs in the Ukrainian language. <\/span><\/p>\n

She is called \u201cthe new rap star of Ukraine\u201d and \u201cthe sensation of Ukraine rap\u201d by her country\u2019s media. <\/span><\/p>\n

Her debut album <\/span>\u00ab\u041f\u0443\u0448\u043a\u0430\u00bb, which translates to \u201crifle\u201d, was released in 2019. The album\u2019s vinyl jacket has a witty way of showing her position in Ukraine\u2019s music industry. <\/span><\/p>\n

With just a total of five outward strokes from her head, it can be seen that she has the spotlight or that she has the \u201ccrown\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

#4 ANI LORAK – \u0421\u041e\u041b\u041d\u0426\u0415<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Ani Lorak is a recipient of the most prestigious and honorary title in her home country, the People\u2019s Artist of Ukraine<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

She is a very powerful and influential woman in her country and was even reported to have the highest income out of all Ukrainian singers in 2014. Her album <\/span>\u0421\u043e\u043b\u043d\u0446\u0435<\/span><\/i>, which translates to \u201cThe Sun\u201d, was released in 2009 without a vinyl record<\/a><\/strong> edition.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2013, Moon Records did a limited vinyl pressing for the album and had all the tracks pressed on custom orange-splashed vinyl records. <\/span><\/p>\n

The record is in standard weight and runs at 33rpm. They are housed inside a black printed inner sleeve, and a single jacket that features the original cover art of the album.<\/span><\/p>\n

#5 MONATIK – LOVE IT <\/b>\u0420\u0418\u0422\u041c<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Monatik is a total performer from Ukraine who dances, sings, and even writes songs. He opened the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017<\/a> on 9 May. His album <\/span>Love It<\/span><\/i> \u0420\u0438\u0442\u043c, is a self-released album in 2019. <\/span><\/p>\n

The album has a total of twenty tracks which are pressed onto two golden yellow 12-inch vinyl records housed inside a printed gatefold jacket<\/a><\/strong> that features cartoon arts outside and inside it.<\/span><\/p>\n

#6 DAKHABRAKHA –\u00a0 THE BEST<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"Ukrainian<\/p>\n

DakhaBrakha is a Ukrainian folk quartet with a very distinct music as they combine the different musical styles of many Ukrainian ethnic groups<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

They released an album in 2019 titled <\/span>The Best<\/span><\/i> which compiles all their best songs into one. There are actually two parts of the album and they are bought separately.<\/span><\/p>\n

The album has a black and white color scheme. The tracks are pressed onto vinyl records colored white<\/a>. They are stored inside a single vinyl jacket with a black and white cover. The background of the artwork is white while the artwork featuring the quartet are in black and gray shades.<\/span><\/p>\n

#7 THE HARDKISS – ZALIZNA LASTIVKA<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Zalizna Lastivka (Ukrainian: \u0417\u0430\u043b\u0456\u0437\u043d\u0430 \u043b\u0430\u0441\u0442\u0456\u0432\u043a\u0430, English: Iron Swallow) is the 3rd <\/span>studio album<\/span><\/a> by the Ukrainian band <\/span>The Hardkiss<\/span><\/a>. It released on September 19, 2018. <\/span><\/p>\n

According to the Hardkiss, work on the album lasted for two years. The album consists of 13 songs and 4 poems, most of which are in Ukrainian. The band began producing the album on February 21, 2017 on <\/span>International Mother Language Day<\/span><\/a>, by first presenting their song “\u0410\u043d\u0442\u0430\u0440\u043a\u0442\u0438\u0434\u0430”<\/span><\/p>\n

#8 KAZKA – KARMA<\/b><\/h3>\n

Kazka (stylized in all caps; Ukrainian: \u041a\u0430\u0437\u043a\u0430, transl.\u2009Fairy tale) is a Ukrainian band that performs pop with elements of electro-folk. Since its creation in 2017, vocalist Oleksandra Zaritska, sopilka player Dmytro Mazuriak and multi-instrumentalist Mykyta Budash have become a “breakthrough of the year”.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The group’s producer and the managers are Yuriy Nikitin and the company Mamamusic. <\/span>The band scored a success with the song “Plakala”, that hit a couple of records among tracks across the CIS. <\/span><\/p>\n

Kazka has become the first band from the CIS to be ranked 8th in all categories and the 3rd in the world pop category of one of the most prestigious world charts Top 10 Global Shazam. <\/span><\/p>\n

Kazka has become an absolute record holder among the Ukrainian artists in the number of views and is in Top 100 best music videos on YouTube<\/a>. The “Plakala” music video has become the first Ukrainian language video to get over 200 million views on YouTube.<\/span><\/p>\n

#9 MAX BARSKIH – 7<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Mykola Mykolaiovych Bortnyk, also known by his stage name Max Barskih and alter-ego Mickolai, is a singer-songwriter from Ukraine. He has already released six studio albums, a compilation album, and an extended play. <\/span><\/p>\n

Amidst the ongoing pandemic in 2020, he was flourishing and was even named the most successful Ukrainian male singer of that year. <\/span><\/p>\n

For this list, I chose his studio album titled <\/span>7<\/span><\/i>. True to the album\u2019s title, it has seven tracks pressed on a standard black 12-inch vinyl record<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

#10 PIANOBOY – \u041d\u0415 \u041f\u0420\u0415\u041a\u0420\u0410\u0429\u0410\u0419 \u041c\u0415\u0427\u0422\u0410\u0422\u042c<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Pianoboy is a solo project created by Dmytro Shurov with a line-up consisting of Dmytro, his sister Olga Shurov, and Lida Tutuola. <\/span><\/p>\n

They debuted in 2012 with the studio album <\/span>Simple Things<\/span><\/i>. Following their first studio album is <\/span>\u041d\u0435 \u043f\u0440\u0435\u043a\u0440\u0430\u0449\u0430\u0439 \u043c\u0435\u0447\u0442\u0430\u0442\u044c<\/span><\/i> in 2013, which translates to <\/span>Don\u2019t Stop Dreaming<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The album\u2019s tracks are in the Russian language and it was released in three formats, namely CD<\/a><\/strong>, vinyl record<\/a><\/strong>, and digital download<\/strong>. It contains a total of thirteen tracks and was nominated in the category \u201cBest Album\u201d of the YUNA award in 2013.<\/span><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s celebrate Ukrainian culture through them and their music.<\/span><\/p>\n
