The grooves cut is a negative image of the soundwave and can be done again if there are errors on the first cut.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These two processes are joined in one step because they can be and are mostly done simultaneously on the same day and the same location. However, they can still be done separately, depending on the engineer or pressing plant you are working with.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"step-2-electroplating\"><\/span><b>STEP #2: ELECTROPLATING<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-34981\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/lion_ring_HgHw5weZT2.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the father plate, or the cut lacquer, has been approved and cleared of any error, it is either sent to a plating plant or to the electroplating section of your pressing plant. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It depends on whether the pressing plant you\u2019ve chosen only offers pressing services. If they do, then they\u2019ll be looking for a plating plant to have it electroplated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Electroplating is an important step because this is where we get the record stamper\/s or the mother plate\/s. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A mother plate is the negative image of the father plate, and since the father plate is the negative image of the sound waves, the mother plate has the positive image of it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To start the process of electroplating, the father plate is sprayed and coated with silver solution on the surface and the grooves. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After that, it is submerged in a container full of liquid tin chloride or nickel for a sufficient amount of time. With the silver coated plate submerged in liquid metal, the metal ions are attracted to the silver forming the mother plate.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"step-3-vinyl-pressing\"><\/span><b>STEP #3: VINYL PRESSING<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-34982\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/dims-1024x667.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"391\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/dims-1024x667.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/dims-300x196.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/dims-768x500.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/dims-1536x1001.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/dims.jpg 1800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last is the actual pressing of the mother plate onto the vinyl puck. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The pressing is done with the use of a pressing machine where one or two mother plates, depending on whether there are one or two playable sides of the vinyl record, are placed above and under the vinyl puck placed in the center.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The vinyl puck is pressed with heat for around 30 seconds. After that, the flat round vinyl record is cut on the sides to remove the excess edges due to the earlier pressing. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A center label, if there are any, is then pasted on the center. Since vinyl is a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/a-brief-history-of-music-formats\/\">physical format<\/a> <\/strong>that also needs contact for music to play, the grooves need to be perfect.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your songs have high sibilance, then that will cause distortions on the groove. Sibilance is when there is a repetition of hushing and hissing sounds. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To avoid high sibilance, be aware of how you pronounce the sibilants, these are the sounds ts, dz, ts, s, and z. Don\u2019t make them sound too strong when you record.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"tip-2-have-your-tracks-mastered-for-vinyl\"><\/span><b>TIP #2: HAVE YOUR TRACKS MASTERED FOR VINYL<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-34986\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/track-needs-mastering.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"335\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is not enough to have your tracks mastered. It should be mastered for vinyl, if you want it to sound great on vinyl. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is a common mistake made by musicians who haven\u2019t tried having a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/vinyl-pressing\"><strong>vinyl pressing<\/strong><\/a> for their album. For you to avoid those distortions, I am advising you to put your more mellow or acoustic tracks on these later grooves and have your tracks with more musical information on the outer grooves.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"tip-4-thoroughly-check-the-test-pressings-sent-to-you\"><\/span><b>TIP #4: THOROUGHLY CHECK THE TEST PRESSINGS SENT TO YOU<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-34987\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/2014CausticWindowLP_090414-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"545\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/2014CausticWindowLP_090414-2.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/2014CausticWindowLP_090414-2-300x273.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Test pressings are the initial <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/vinyl-pressing\">vinyl pressings<\/a><\/strong> sent to you by your pressing plant to have you check it before they actually press your vinyl records in bulk. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A month or more after sending everything for your album and having them approved, you will receive around 5 to 10 copies of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/vinyl-pressing\"><strong>test pressings<\/strong><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Test pressings are mostly standard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/classic-black-vinyl-records-modern-vinyl-packaging-designs\/\"><strong>black vinyl records<\/strong><\/a> sent to you packaged in a generic sleeve without the artwork you\u2019ve sent or approved.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To check your <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/vinyl-pressing\">test pressing<\/a>,<\/strong> you will of course need a turntable to listen to it. Make sure that your songs are in the order you listed them. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, while you are listening to it, you might hear some skips, hisses, or some kind of anomaly.
