This is the format that is the trickiest to manufacture and unlike making CDs and USB drives, we simply can&#8217;t rush <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/vinyl-pressing\">vinyl pressing<\/a> or else it could be a disaster.<\/p>\n<p>There are so many points at which the process could go wrong because unlike digital, it&#8217;s an analog format which requires information to be stamped to an actual thing (that is vinyl) and although we find the imperfections of vinyl charming, it has its limits. We have to make it as best as we can.<\/p>\n<p>So it&#8217;s tedious and it takes a while. It is like pregnancy, we take the time it needs\u2014usually 8 weeks\u2014 because that&#8217;s what it requires to make a good vinyl record. Period. We have many bags of virgin pellets in almost all colors which then gets melted and pressed with your masters. Once you&#8217;ve sent us your masters, our engineers will check them to ensure they&#8217;re done right or else there might be errors and distortion.<\/p>\n<p>Vinyl prone to have slight imperfections like distortion and noise that is why you have to be very meticulous in mastering your vinyl. Music is recorded from start to finish so it becomes one long continuous grove in the lather. They will then inspect everything under a microscope &#8212; to see if there isn&#8217;t anything too funky with the cut. For rigidity the metalized lacquer is dipped into a nickel bath, where an electro charge fuses the nickle to the silver. The metal layer from the lacquer is the metal stamper used in pressing hundreds and thousands of vinyl after.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#4 TEST PRESSING<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-32848\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/test-pressing-vinyl.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/test-pressing-vinyl.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/test-pressing-vinyl-150x150.jpeg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In steps 1-3, we tried our best to make sure everything is done right. With our experience in vinyl mastering and pressing, we try to make sure there will be no major flaws in the final record.<\/p>\n<p>This step is where we will find out if we actually did a good job. We will press a few records and listen to them to check if the masters are translated well on vinyl. This is also the step we let you listen to them and give us a go signal to do the full run.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#5 PRINTING LABELS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-32849\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unifiedmanufacturing.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/PRINTING-LABELS.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"580\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The labels on your vinyl records are actually applied within the press. Vinyl pellets are fed into a hopper, then the liquefied pellets are fed through an extruder creating hot rubbery plates aka &#8220;biscuits.&#8221; The labels are then placed at the top and bottom of the biscuit the then pressed down together with the stampers using 100 tons of pressure at 200 degrees Celsius.<\/p>\n<p>Check out this vinyl pressing video by Insider.
