Art is for anyone.<\/strong> It\u2019s just not for everyone, says art critic Jerry Saltz. But according to his beautiful essay\u00a0How to Be an Artist<\/a>, making art is indeed tough and you have to be able to handle criticism because that’s part of art. Period. He says this in a self-deprecating way as he claimed to be a “failed artist.”<\/p>\n

First, what is criticism? It\u00a0is the judging of the merits and faults of something or someone in an intelligible\u00a0manner. It is not merely finding fault, but finding solutions so the work can be improved exponentially. <\/span><\/p>\n

We know this but it is sometimes not very easy for artists especially when\u00a0we’ve invested too much time and effort in our work. It is also especially hard because we attach ourselves to the work. Any bad review\u00a0seems like a personal attack. <\/span><\/p>\n

But it shouldn’t be that way. <\/span>Here are some tips on how you should handle criticism when you’re an artist:<\/span><\/p>\n
