“Too many creative people don’t wanna learn how to be technical, so what happens? They become dependent on technical people. Become technical. You can learn that. If you’re creative and technical, you’re unstoppable.”
This is one great advice from the most frugal director, Robert Rodriguez. Since his first DIY breakout film “El Mariachi” (full-length film with lots of action sequences made with $7,000 budget), Robert has been able to maintain total creative control of his films mostly due to one thing: the dude knows how to stretch a dollar.
Here is a video that will inspire you to get creative and resourceful in making your film. What I especially like is when he said you should shoot like you’re editing the film. That means, you have to have a clear picture of the visuals so that you won’t go on shooting and shooting thousands of versions of one scene. Getting creative when you have lots of dollars to spend is cool but making something beautiful with a very restricted budget and time is just so awesome.
